CTET Exam: A Brief Overview

The CTET is a national-level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine eligibility for teaching positions in government and private schools across India.

It consists of two papers:

  • Paper-I will be conducted for candidates who wish to be teachers for Classes I to IV
  • Paper-II will be conducted for candidates who wish to be teachers for Classes VI to VIII

Candidates can appear for both if eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

Primary Level (I-V)Senior Secondary (50%) with a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) OR Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) OR equivalent qualification.
Upper Primary (VI-VIII)Graduation (50%) with a B.Ed degree OR Senior Secondary with an integrated B.Sc./B.A. Ed OR equivalent qualification.

CTET Exam Pattern

  • Both papers are 2.5 hours long.
  • Paper I includes 5 sections: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.
  • Paper II includes 4 sections: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, and either Mathematics/Science or Social Studies.
  • Each paper has 150 multiple-choice questions worth 150 marks.
  • 1 mark is awarded for every correct answer and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers
  • Main question paper shall be Bilingual (Hindi/English)

Qualification Marks: A person scoring 60% or more in the TET exam will be deemed to have passed the exam

CTET Certificate Validity: The Validity Period of CTET qualifying certificate for appointment will be for lifetime for all categories

Application Process

  1. Visit the official CTET website at https://ctet.nic.in
  2. Click on the “Apply Online” link and open the application form.
  3. Complete the Online Application Form and note down your Registration/Application Number.
  4. Upload your most recent scanned photograph and signature.
  5. Make the payment for the examination fee using a debit/credit card or net banking.
  6. Download and print the confirmation page for your records and future reference.

Previous Year Question Papers

Practicing previous year papers helps candidates understand the exam structure, difficulty level, and commonly asked topics.

Results

Results will be declared on the official website, and candidates can check them using their roll numbers.

Results for CTET are expected to be out by the end of January 2025, while answer key is expected by the end of December 2024
